First Download the software and then Install it , if you face any problems in installing it , just contact me for your problem .

Now after finishing the installation , open the Ipswitch WS_FTP from your desktop .

As you see , the software is Divided into two parts , the left hand side part is the files stored in your website , while the right hand side part is your website content that will appear after connecting the software with your website , so let’s now connect them .

Up in the Address bar , put your domain name , for example : bigtutorials.net

In the UserID bar put your Cpanel user-name , and in the Password put your Cpanel password , then click on GO .

After clicking in GO your website will be opened in a new tab with all of it’s content in the right hand side part .

Now you can simply upload any type of files you want by choosing the file you want to upload from your hard drive content from the left hand side , and then click on the green Arrow in the middle which is in the direction of your website content and wait for a while until the file is uploaded depending on the file size .
( remember ! , open your public_html folder first and then begin uploading , all your website content like index.html must be uploaded to the public_html directory )

Also you can download any files from your website to your computer by using any file you want to download from your website and then click on the green arrow in the middle which is in the direction of your hard drive content and wait for a while until the file is downloaded depending on the file size .

We will going to use this software to upload any files , scripts , images or anything else , so do not pass it please unless you are understand it well .

And as we talked before there are another method to upload your files and folders which is using File manager in Cpanel , but using WS_FTP program to upload your files and folders is the easiest method until now .

What is WS_FTP ?

It is a program used to upload your files and folders to your website in order to create a website and WS_FTP program is the most popular program to upload your website content in easy and secure way .

The Next tutorial we are going to learn how to website files and folders using WS_FTP program after connecting it with our web host .

Suppose we want to create an email account : contact@yourdomain.com to put it on your website to let your visitors contact you for any questions and requests .

So login to your Cpanel First .
Click on ” Add / Remove E-mail account(s) ” .

Now you are required to put the email name ( contact , admin , info…etc )
and put your password , then click Create .

And this what I’ve done :

Now go back to your Cpanel home .
Click on ” Read Webmail ” .

Now you have three choices to read your email from , first is read mail using ” Horde ” , or ” RoundCube ” or ” SquirrelMail ” .

You can access your visitors mail and your inbox through any of this choices and all are the same . But I prefer ” RoundCube ” as it has the best interface of them .

You can read , delete , spam and reply any email from RoundCube .

Also there are people use this function if they are going to transfer their website to a new domain name , for example if your website domain is xx.com and you bought a new domain name yy.com and decided to work only on yy.com domain and transfer all your website content to it , so you need to direct all your coming visitors to the old domain ( xx.com ) and redirect them to the new one ( yy.com ) .
Redirect function will help you ,  so that you will NOT lose any visitor coming to your old website domain and this method is better than uploading a simple index.html page in your old domain tilling your visitor about your new domain . Just redirect them automatically is absolutely better .

So let’s create a redirect from our Cpanel .
Login to your Cpanel First .
Click on the ” Manage Redirects ” button .

• In front of  ” Type ” choose : permanent 301
• ” http://(www.)? ” choose your main domain yourdomain.com , or you can specific only a subdomain to be redirect , or you can choose all domains , and on the right hand field , put the destination path you want to redirect your visitors from or leave it blank to redirect your visitors from your home page .
• “ redirects to ” put the new path you want your new visitors to be redirects to ( remember to put ” http://” before the path , and ” / ” after the path .
• ” www redirection: ” choose ” Redirect with or without www. “

For example I’m going to create a redirect from www.site2u.net/bigtutorials to www.site2u.net/create-a-website , so my option will be like that :

Then Click on Add . Now try to open the redirect page and test what you’ve done .
Remember you can redirect to a different domain other than your current domain , or you can create a redirect inside your current domain and between it’s pages .

Sub-domains are process which you can separate every category so that every category act like a website . Your sub-domain will be in the form of www.games.yourwebsitename.com and you can change the word ” games ” to what you want depending on the category you are going to create .

Other people use subdomain to create a forum or blog , for example their main website is www.yourwebsitename.com , the blog is www.blog.yourwebsitename.com and the forum is www.forums.yourwebsitename.com

So you can create a sub-domain for different uses , just see what you want or what is the categories needed and create a sub-domain for each category , Now let’s go to create one .

First log-in to your Cpanel and click on the ” Sub-Domains ” button .

Now under the ” Create a Sub-domain ” title you will find Root domain and Document Root fields .

In front of Root domain , write down the name of the sub-domain you want ( i.e. the name of your category )
I’m going to write webdesign as I want my sub-domain to be like that : www.webdesign.yourwebsitename.com

After writing the root domain , a value in the Document root will be automatically added , just leave what has been added , the value must be like this : public_html/the sub-domain name ( For me it will be public_html/webdesign )

And now click on ” Create ”

And now what if you want to upload files or folders to only this sub-domain , just open your website using FTP and access to public_html > your sub-domain name  .. and then upload what you want and the files you have just uploaded will be only access through www.subdomain-name.yourwebsitename.com .

So creating a backup for your website is a very important task that you must do it two or three times per week depending on your website updating times , as there are websites updated there content every three days , some of theme every week while others everyday , so it is recommended to create a backup after every new content you added to your website , or after editing lot of setting to avoid repeating them .

Backups are two types :
First is FULL BACKUP , where you can take a backup of all your website content including all databases , files , folders , images , FTP and emails accounts and any other thing uploaded to your website , so you can say when you delete all your website , you can restore it with completely using the FULL BACKUP type .

The Second type is DATABASE BACKUP , where you will take a backup for a specific database only , say you take a backup for your Wordpress database , then you will take a backup for only posts , pages and categories  , not the whole website .

I recommend to you to take a full backup one time per week and every two days for the database backup .

Let’s go now and take a full backup and database backup .
First login to your Cpanel .

Search for the button “ Backup “ , then click on it .

Now you will find the two options of backup , First is the full backup option and you will find it under the “  Full Backup ” title . While the other option database backup and you will find it under ” Download a MySQL Database Backup ” title .

let’s start with the full backup , so click now on the ” Download or generate a full backup ” button .

Leave everything as it , then click ” Generate Backup ” button .

Now as Cpanel told you , Creating the full backup in progress and a confirmation e-mail will sent to you when the backup is ready . So you have to wait at least two minutes for the full backup to be ready , this period of time is depending on your website size , the larger your website , the more it will take time to create your full backup .

Now click on ” Go Back ” , or open ” Backup ” from Cpanel home if you closed the current page and then click again on ” Download or generate a full backup.
Now you will see that your new full backup is listed under” Backups Available for Download: “  title and it is ready to download right now by just clicking on the link and start downloading .

So after every time you create any full backup and after it becomes ready , it will be listed under ” Backups Available for Download: ” title and you can simply download it by just clicking on the link .

Now what if we want to take the database backup only ?

Open again ” Backup ” from Cpanel home as we did before , this time scroll down , and at the bottom of the page you will find ” Download a MySQL Database Backup ” title , beneath it there is the databases that you have created from MySQL section , choose which database you want to take a backup for it , and simply click on it to start downloading it’s backup .

Now you are safe from any data loss for any reason , just keep these backup in a safe place where you can find them at any time and later in another lessons I will explain to you how to restore this backups to get back your website as it was before .

What is Meant by FTP ?

FTP is stand for ” File Transfer Protocol ” and it is a well develop method that’s allow you transfer any kind of files from your computer to your website , so we are going to use it to upload our website content to our web host space .

What is meant by FTP programs ?

FTP programs are programs that designed to allow you transfer your website content including files , folders , images..etc , from your computer to your web host space , or you can use these programs to download any files on your website to your computer .

So we are going today to learn how to upload our website files , folders and pictures using the second method which is uploading through FTP programs like WS_FTP .

In order to upload your files using FTP programs , you must first create a FTP account from Cpanel , then you use this account to access to your website within the FTP programs .
So I’m going to explain today how to create the FTP account . later in another tutorial , I will explain to you how use this account with FTP programs and start uploading your files .

Remember : your Cpanel username and password are considered as a FTP account , so that you can login to your website within FTP programs using this main login information . you may need to create a new FTP account if you are more than one ( team work ) working on the same website , or you may create a new FTP account with different permissions , so that you can give permissions to make this new account use only a specific region on your website .
For example you can create a folder on your website for your friend to upload his files and images on the internet to share them , so you can create a new FTP account for him giving him the availability to access only to the folder you create for him not the whole website and you can also limit the size of his uploaded files .

Anyway remember : your Cpanel login information = your main FTP account with all permissions .

So to create a new FTP account , login to your Cpanel account first , then search for the button ” FTP Accounts ” , then click on it .

Now put your desired FTP information

Directory field is the directory you wanna give this FTP account the permission to access ( your friend folder ) , leave it blank if you want to give this account permission to access to all your website content .
The directory path will be in the form of : ” public_html/xxxx ” , where xxxx is the name of the directory or folder ( i.e. your friend folder )

Quota: (MB) is the maximum size in MB of the directory or folder you have specified in the directory field , you can put the size in order to limit the directory size . leave it blank if there is no directory filed submitted .

Now Click on Create .

You will see now your new FTP account information with it’s permission and size .

Now we have two account we can use to upload our files and folders , the main FTP account and this new account .
Anyway we are going to use the main FTP account to access to our website as it have all the permissions , however you must know how to create a new FTP account .

So Let’s know how to create MySQL database , and then save your new MySQL database information because you will need this information later when you are installing any script .

Before starting the lesson , you must know that every script has it’s own database , so you can NOT create one database for more than one script , or you may fall in trouble .
so every time you are going to upload and install a new script , come here and follow the instructions , unless you’ve become a professional and do not need any resources .

Creating MySQL database is consist of 3 steps .
1 ) Creating a database .
2) Creating username and password .
3) Adding your username to your database .

Now login to your Cpanel .

Search For ” MySQL Databases ” and click on it .

1 ) Creating a database

In front of ” New Database ” , put your desired database name ( you can write your database without any Restrictions ,  but do not make it so easy or so relevant to the script you are going to upload so that you are safe from being hacked or your database stolen )

Say I’m going to upload wordpress script , so I will create a database with the name of : wpbas
Then click on create database .

click ” Go back ” .

Now you have created a database , but it is not enough to complete the installing process of any script , you must create a username and password for the database you have just created , and then connecting them each other .

2) Creating username and password

Scroll down , you will find MySQL Users title , under it you will find New user , now write any disired username and password , they are like database name , you can write anything without any Restrictions .

Say I’m going to create a username : wpmyuser
and password : 123456 ( you can generate a random password by clicking on ” Generate password “  )

Then Click on ” create user ” .

( you will noticed that your cpanel password is added before your submitted database name , this is happen whenever you create a new database as well as creating a username  , remember that your database name will be all the phrase not only after the underscore . i.e : cpanelusername_wpbas )

Click on ” Go back ” .

Now one more step , is to connect or add the username to the database .

3) Adding your username to your database .

Scroll Down , you will find  ” Add User To Database ” Title , beneath it you will find two drop menus , one is for your databases and the second for your usernames .
Choose the database we have just created ( wpbas ) and the username we have just created too ( wpmyuser ) .
Then Click ” Submit ” .

Now you will see lot of radio buttons , ignore them all , just check the option ” ALL PRIVILEGES ” , and you will notice that all radio buttons are checked , if so then click on ” Make Changes ” .

Click on ” Go back ” .

After clicking on Go back you will go back to the page that you created database and username from , but now scroll down little , you will see something like that :

The database and username you have just created and connecting them each other will be listed in this table , you must see the database name in the left column , and the username added to it in the third column .
If that not appear to you , you probably did something wrong , maybe you forget adding the username to the database ( last step ) , just go back and follow up the instructions again .

Important Step :

Now go to your desktop and create a new text file , rename it to ” database information ” .
write down the following :
database name :
database username :
password :

Leave this text file open .

Now Go back to the the table that database and username listed in it , and then copy your database name  and username , and past them in the text file .

So that the text file will be like that :

Now save this text file , and store it on your computer , as we will need this information of your database name , username and password when we are installing any script , so we will reopen it again in the ” installing wordpress tutorial ” , so that everything will be ready .
